Corporate Controller

Corporate Controller

Gardner Capital, a leading affordable housing and renewable energy developer, investor, and tax credit syndicator, is experiencing significant growth. With primary regional offices in St. Louis, Missouri, and Dallas, Texas, we are expanding our leadership team. We are seeking a high-energy, professional Corporate Controller to creatively oversee and direct our accounting team and help build our corporate infrastructure. This role is perfect for self-starters who excel in an entrepreneurial small business environment and are looking to make a significant impact every day.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Support senior management with financial decisions through detailed data analysis and informed business reports, financial forecasts, and statements.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to the finance and accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Actively lead the finance and accounting team to foster a culture of continuous improvement and open communication to enhance performance and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Supervise financial reporting and budget preparation by the team, working across departments to ensure proper handling of accounting transactions.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts, and statements to understand the financial state of the business.
  • Manage the books of our corporate entities.
  • Maintain the general ledger, oversee quarterly reporting, and manage investment analysis and budgets.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with teams, adapt to changing demands, and present problem areas with recommended solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Executive/owner/investor level modeling
  • General ledger maintenance
  • Quarterly reporting
  • Investment analysis and budgets
  • Working with lenders and investors on diligence requirements
  • Designing ad-hoc portfolio reporting and analysis
  • Monitor a company’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Offer strategic planning insights

 

Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Proficiency in a variety of accounting and financial analysis functions
  • High ethical standards including maintaining the highest level of discretion and confidentiality
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-Starter, able to identify problem areas and present recommended solutions
  •  Effective collaboration skills – can lead a team when asked
  • Ability to easily and quickly adapt to changing project demands and needs; high energy

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least seven plus years’ related experience
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Experience with Great Plains 2015 a plus
  • MBA, CPA, or other professional designation preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial analysis functions
  • Knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Property portfolio experience highly desired

 

Compensation:

$115,000 – $140,000

Multiple factors, including individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.
